Picture This -- Art Exploration for Kids: “David Hockney: Whose Point of View? Walk Around a Chair”

Picture This -- Art Exploration for Kids: “David Hockney: Whose Point of View? Walk Around a Chair”(Grades K-5)

“We’ll see how a modern artist plays with perspective, illusion of depth, and vanishing point then we’ll play with perspective and create our own strange versions of reality on paper! “

When kids arrive, have them peruse optical illusion books – wander among them talking about how visual artists (painters) are putting 3D world on 2D canvas.

Show DVD: Behind the Scenes with David Hockney (through floorboard segment)

  • Give kids cardboard clipboards with bulldog clips & paper, pencils – have them gather around a chair and draw it from different perspectives, color with pastels
  • Show remainder of video.
  • Let kids finish their drawings or try their hands at vanishing point perspective.
